Before reading on, take a second to finish this sentence with the first word that comes to mind:
These are ________ times that we are living in.
In yesterday’s Thursday HotSeat, the Member in focus was open about feeling challenged with working and living in the current climate.
Although he has tools that usually keep him centred and allow him to focus his attention productively, he shared that he is finding this increasingly hard, and the pressurised environment is leaving him a bit off-kilter.
With so much going on, it is more impactful than ever to be discerning with what we are choosing to focus on and having a healthy mindset around events that are occurring in our experience.
This can be the difference between seizing the opportunity to undergo a brilliant metamorphosis, or exhausting the resources we have, just to get through each day and keep our heads above water.
So what word came to mind first, when you read the sentence above?
Whatever it was, it is a starting point from which you can accept how you are feeling and begin to pivot or expand your thinking into a more productive and coherent space.
To support a more expansive view on present events, check out this piece and associated articles by Dave Pendle on Imaginal Cells, Metamorphosis and Emergence. These are the cells responsible for the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly and have inspired relevance to the changes we are witnessing in our world, and the experiences that many of us are currently living. To bring greater relevance, the caterpillar goes into lockdown and isolation before entering metamorphosis and finally emerges anew with new capabilities.
Marc Winn also wrote an article on Imaginal Cells with this particularly poignant description:
These cells hold all the potential for the future, but initially they act separately, before combining as one to create something incredible that is a great improvement on their previous existence.
We are truly in the perfect place for individual and collective metamorphosis, and the way we approach the current intensity may influence what kind of creature we emerge as 🙂
