In yesterday’s Thursday HotSeat, the Member in focus shared that he wanted to gain more differentiation between the tasks which are urgent and the ones which are most important in his life and business. He felt like he was taking care of the seemingly urgent items, sometimes at the expense of more important tasks for the strength and growth of this business.
This awareness came after listening to a guy on a podcast who shared “The riches are in the work you’re avoiding”. Riches can be defined as financial, which is where most usually go in their mind, or can be something much greater.
We took some time to look at this from a couple of angles. Firstly, there’s the purely mechanical aspect of using a structured approach to batch tasks and schedule time effectively, and then being strong or disciplined with boundaries around those times, no matter what emails, messages or requests come through that require attention; supporting our business growth and “riches”.
A Member described the benefits of this in last week’s Titan’s session where he shared the feeling of relief he gets when his week is adequately batched with all tasks being allocated an appropriate timeslot. He feels released from that niggly feeling that he’s missing something or he should be doing something else at any given moment, as he knows that everything will be taken care of sequentially as he moves through the week.
The other aspect of this is the understanding that if we are having an unwanted experience that we have been having for a while, or that we have encountered multiple times, it is likely that we are operating within a pattern or habit of behaviour which we have become used to, and is therefore ‘normal’ to our system. This is to do with the biological and emotional conditioning that happens when we are repeatedly exposed to an experience or feeling, and our system’s ability to adapt to that so that we are no longer destabilised by it. Breaking through on this level opens us up to a much greater experience of life and business, and the many riches available within.
In order to address the cause of this cycle and make lasting change, there is therefore an element of self-awareness and letting go of the drivers for this behaviour so that the undesired experience becomes ‘not normal’ and therefore easier to shift from.
For some, this can be achieved in the moment through the process of letting go of the current pattern or belief, and for others, some support to release subconscious blocks and patterning can be a great pre-cursor to consciously making the desired changes.
Within the Club we enjoy “having our cake AND eating it too” through working with and benefiting from both the external and internal strategies. The latter supporting us in knowing and giving timely attention to exactly what’s urgent, and what’s important.
