The Power of Questions

by Leigh / Thursday, 28 October 2021 / Published in Personal

What else is possible?

How does it get even better than this?

If you are familiar with Access Consciousness, you may recall these questions as a powerful basis for improving any experience that is less than ideal, or expanding on a situation that’s already awesome.

Questions trigger the brain’s natural ability to solve problems and expand into new ideas and perspectives, when a solution is not obvious with the current level of thinking.

And they can also help us to go from one winning experience to something even greater when we take a moment at the pinnacle to ask these questions and allow our minds to expand into the possibility of something even more amazing.

In today’s Thursday HotSeat, our Member in focus shared that he is wanting to bring the best out in a new Team member. To empower him to be proactive and self-sufficient, therefore requiring increasingly less input and management.

A seriously potent strategy that I use to achieve independence with my Team is also built on questions. It goes like this: Question, Question, Question, Advocate.

So when a Team member asks me for help with something, instead of giving the answer, which disempowers the person and diminishes their initiative and independence, I support them through the process of coming up with a solution themselves. I ask questions to engage their critical thinking and then advocate for them to follow through with solution that they come up with.

The questions might be: Have you encountered a similar situation before? How did you handle it? Would that solution apply to this situation in any way?, or something else that’s relevant. Once they have clarity from the questions you’ve asked, you can advocate or encourage them to go ahead with the solution that they have in fact clarified.

This creates initiative rather than dependence or reliance, which is a game changer for productivity, and opens up your bandwidth for more creativity.

The key is the ability that questions have to require that our brains access a fresh approach and cover new ground to solve a challenge.

In the case of going from one experience to something even better, questions can propel us forward to greater heights and preparedness for things to be increasingly more magical and fulfilling than we ever thought possible.

You can test the power of questions by simply acknowledging your appreciation for someone, somewhere or something that you’re thankful for by saying “Thank you”, and then ask yourself “Why” you appreciate this person, place or thing. Now ask yourself “Why” again and come up with another reason. And “Why” once more, with an additional reason. Notice the work your brain had to do to answer the 2nd and 3rd time, and how it impacted your feelings.

You’ll also have just taught yourself a valuable process for being present to the amazingness of your life, and will be feeling really gooooood. The effects are lasting. Try and see.

Love to hear your experience.
