In yesterday’s Meeting of the Titans, we had another awesome session which was jam-packed with know-how, experience, wisdom, contacts and brilliant questions to support the Member in focus.
Having reclaimed his time and creating monthly revenue records every other month, he shared his goal to have a fully functional and automated business that grows and thrives without his input in 4 years’ time; partly in consideration of a tax break opportunity, and mostly giving him the option to sell it at its highest value.
We covered a lot of ground, including tech stacks, product evaluation, marketing, how to manage distraction levels and the basis for decision-making. The basis for decision making was delivered with a couple of great questions for the Member in focus, which were:
Do you make decisions based on looking at what creates simplicity vs what creates complexity?
Between and within each project, use the filter of ‘How do I bring simplicity into the business?’ as a basis for decision-making.
These questions came from a Member who has over 40 years in business, and 3 of those years he was BRW Fastest 100 listed. His questions brought into focus the natural propensity for us as human beings to steer towards decisions that create more complexity than necessary.
Through the filter of ‘Bringing simplicity into the business’, it is much easier to discern what truly needs to be undertaken, how much is enough, and which new opportunities/products/marketing angles etc should be actioned and which are simply noise when held up against the intended outcome, which in this case is to create a turn-key business.
And when we are ensuring that our business is turn-key and most valuable for a potential buyer; simplicity is key.
A great reminder to stay present to what we are ultimately wanting to achieve, to ensure that we don’t make the journey or outcome more complex than it needs to be.
