In yesterday’s Meeting of the Titans one of the newer Members was in the HotSeat and took the opportunity to get support from myself and the Brain’s Trust regarding pivoting his business from a low volume, high retention product offering, to a new product set which involves higher volume and faster turnaround.
One of the areas we spent time on was understanding the personality profiling system we use to firstly capitalise on the strengths of this Member as the leader of his business, and then secondly to ensure that, within his immediate Team, he has the most beneficial skill sets to compliment his own. He also realised through this process some gaps he can fill within the Team, which will relieve him of some of the extra hats he’s been wearing. This was an astounding insight for him.
It’s worth noting here that the old-school education that most of us received, both at school and in our working lives has ingrained in us the idea that there will always be tasks that we have to do which we are either not great at, or we really don’t like, or both.
In fact, we might believe that this a fact of life.
However, this is actually not the best way to play to our strengths or to access and utilise our genius or flow, or that of our Team.
The personality profiling system that we use within the Club helps us to move beyond this outdated idea, as there are always people who love to do the things we dislike and who are also infinitely better at doing them than we are. The key is in understanding how the strengths and weaknesses of different profiles can be used to create a balanced environment, with all aspects covered.
Certain profiles are also more likely to get answers to their own challenges through speaking it out, and today’s Member in focus demonstrated this multiple times during the session. The beauty of having a space to communicate in-depth about a specific focus and to have someone ask questions to draw out and zero-in on the underlying situation, is that this process in and of itself, allows the realisation of our own answers and a-ha moments.
In this case he gained shifts in perspective and realised many of his own solutions before the wider input from the group was even made. This allowed the brain’s trust to use questions and make contributions which then took the situation to another level, enabling expansion beyond the original challenge that was tabled, and providing assistance and inspiration in an extended way.
