Beyond the First Summit

by Leigh / Thursday, 18 June 2026 / Published in Business

In our latest online mastermind session, we confronted a subtle psychological hurdle that directly impacts highly experienced leaders. We frequently operate under the belief that our peace of mind sits just on the other side of our next major business objective. We tell ourselves that once we secure a lucrative exit, expand into a new market, or finalise a complex team handover, we will finally experience genuine relief. However, our discussion highlighted that heavily relying on these conditional milestones to dictate our internal state merely keeps us chasing rainbows, constantly searching for a payoff that never arrives.

The conversation opened by dissecting the neuroscience behind how we perceive our reality. Recent developments in physics have proven that the universe is not locally real; meaning the physical world we interact with is heavily influenced by the observer. Science demonstrates that the brain uses the vast majority of its bandwidth to project a simulated reality based on our past experiences. When we feel frustration over a difficult relationship or a delayed project, we are frequently reacting to a false projection. If we wait for our external environment to become perfect before we allow ourselves to feel happy, we surrender all of our internal power.

This dynamic became starkly apparent when the group discussed the reality of exiting a business. One Member shared the story of a close friend who recently sold his company, only to experience a severe loss of identity and a subsequent marriage breakdown. We frequently assume that securing a massive financial windfall will instantly solve our problems. Yet, without a grounded internal baseline, stepping away from the daily operations of a business simply creates an uncomfortable void.

Another Member, scaling a successful tech enterprise, resonated with the challenge of navigating transitions. Having just delivered his company’s highest revenue quarter on record, he honestly shared the difficult process of letting go of a key team member who had been with the business for nine years but could no longer grow with the evolving demands of the role. The group noted that maintaining our clarity during rapid expansion supports us in letting go of what no longer serves the business, ensuring we do not become trapped by our own historical loyalty.

The necessity of this strong internal baseline extended deeply into how we manage personal challenges. Another Member shared a highly volatile, ongoing situation with an ex-partner that recently culminated in an unexpected and confrontational home visit. Rather than reverting to his past habit of anger and retaliation, he consciously chose to apply a new perspective. By recognising the influence of his perception on his interactions, he found a way to offer appreciation instead of hate. This incredible shift proved that while we cannot control the external actions of others, we retain complete authority over the meaning we assign to them.

Reframing our perceived limitations also changes how we manage our daily operations. A property developer shared his recent diagnosis of ADHD. Instead of viewing the hyperactive traits as a disadvantage, he recognised them as a distinct superpower; the exact persistent drive that supported him in successfully securing complex project refinancing when his broker could not find a solution. Similarly, another Member operating a landscaping enterprise noted the rising market demand for wellness spaces. By trusting his intuition, he is actively expanding his services to include saunas and cold plunges, directly catering to clients who are looking to buy back their time and improve their physical state.

Navigating this shift from head-led logic to heart-led intuition is an ongoing practice. One Member, who completely transitioned his career from financial planning to becoming a successful artist, openly shared his journey of becoming more emotional and heart-centred. He noted that the deeper he leans into his creative work, the faster he moves through negativity. Another Member admitted his eagerness to push his loved ones directly into these advanced levels of awareness. He quickly realised that effective mentorship supports holding back; allowing others the necessary space to step through the foundational stages of growth at their own pace.

We learned that navigating the complex reality of running our companies supports us in inevitably embracing a completely unconditional state of happiness. Instead of forcing our external environment to conform to our expectations, we can actively choose to find peace in the exact moment we are in. By continually letting go of our rigid interpretations and trusting our internal guidance, we strip away the unnecessary friction of leadership and allow our operations to scale with ease.
