Beyond business

by Leigh / Friday, 07 October 2022 / Published in Business, Personal

In yesterday’s Meeting of the Titans, we had a great discussion about beyond-business outcomes which effect all of us.

This was sparked by the Member in focus who has had immense and varied success in business over the years (including being a 3 X BRW Fastest 100 Leader), and is now seeking help with a new, heart-led project that is taking him outside of his comfort zone and into using his talents to be of service in a different way.

As successful business leaders, we use our considerable skill, knowledge, wisdom and focus to create great things in business every day and I suspect that most of us have also considered how we might pour those resources into making a contribution to the world, or the people in it, in a way that’s meaningful to us.

However, bigger picture conversations can easily take a back seat whilst time is allocated to current business projects, and we’re not always in an appropriate place, or with supportive comrades to discuss what may seem like pie in the sky ideas.

If you’ve had some success in business already, you may relate to the increasingly nagging feeling of ‘What’s next?’, where expanding into a new geographical area, increasing sales, or taking that new product to market doesn’t quite offer the same excitement that something bigger may.

This could be a sign that you have a beyond-business, hairy audacious goal just waiting to see the light of day 🙂

The truth is that our next phase of learning, expanding, growing and evolving is always to be found outside of our comfort zone. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.”

It actually doesn’t matter what the something is. It’s the act of stretching ourselves in the direction of achieving something that matters to us and challenges us in equal measure, that creates the aliveness, adventure and expansion we crave.

And if you have concerns about whether your intended path is ‘right’, the best way to ensure you’re on track is to get started and find out what you don’t know, then you can make adjustments accordingly.

One thing that I am very grateful for within the Club, is the culture of growth and expansion and the way we support each other to courageously follow what makes us happy.

In my experience, having like-minded (and like-hearted), capable and connected people in your corner supports you in bringing your biggest dreams, which may be beyond business, to life.
